California Primary - Should It Be Moved?
Posted by Webmaster under Democratic Party , National PoliticsWhat are your thoughts on a possible Febuary 5 Presidential Primary Day? Do you think California will get more say in determining the Party’s nominee next year if the Primary election is moved up from June to February?

It’s about time California, the nation’s most populous state, becomes more than an afterthought and an ATM for presidential candidates. These candidates will finally be forced to address California’s issues and needs and speak to Californian’s progressive view of our nation and our world!

New Hampshire and Iowa are not going to switch to May or June, so we have no choice but to move the Presidential Primary to February. Not doing so ensures our continued irrelevance.
More difficult is the question of the rest of the primary races. Leaving them in June means having to pay the cost of an extra election. Moving them means that all of these races get burdened with a ridiculously long general election campaign. Neither is very attractive.
Even more problematic will be the ballot measures that come up in February. Any reform measures will be doomed if there is a perception that the Presidential Primary is being used as an excuse to have a special election in February for these measures. It will be just like Schwarzenegger’s failed special election. We must make sure that such reform are not in the ballot in February or that they take effect no sooner than if they had been held for the June election.
