Statement on the 2010 State of the State
LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on the 2010 State of the State Address:
“No matter how you frame it, the state of our state has declined dramatically during six years of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s so-called governorship. At year’s end, Arnold can go back to the movie business - though even that has deteriorated on his watch. Meanwhile, millions of Californians are still waiting for the ‘fantastic’ jobs, improved quality of life and cutting-edge reforms he promised.
“Over these past six years, Schwarzenegger has lived up to his ‘Terminator’ nickname, as he has nearly terminated this once-golden state. He has treated California like it was Hollywood make-believe; as if blowing up boxes and slashing critical funding were mere special effects, without real consequences for real people. Now, he wants to privatize prisons and opposes healthcare reforms badly needed by so many of us.
“For Californians without health insurance or who are unemployed, receiving fewer services, going to schools with larger class sizes and fewer offerings, Arnold’s departure cannot come soon enough. California desperately needs new leadership. Soon enough we will have the chance to elect a Democratic governor who will help us salvage California from the ravages of six years of the ‘Governator’ and who can restore hope for a better, brighter future for our state.
“We thank Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg for standing up for California’s most vulnerable and voiceless and for fighting back against the Governor’s special interest agenda. We look forward to working closely with soon-to-be Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez and all of our Democratic Legislators to ensure that California is once again the Golden State.”
