LACDP Chair Eric Bauman Statement on SCOTUS Health Care Decision

I applaud the Supreme Court’s ruling this morning to uphold the Affordable Care Act, the signature piece of legislation of President Obama’s first term.

More than 44 million Americans without insurance will not lose their opportunity to get health care or be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition, and those who are insured no longer face the threat of losing their coverage if they get sick.

History always looks kindly on those who show strength and leadership in the face of extreme adversity.

Simply put, President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act is one of the most important pieces of legislation of the last fifty years – legislation that Mitt Romney and the Republicans fought at every turn.

The slim majority of the Supreme Court’s Justices that voted to uphold health care reform today should serve as a reminder of the vital importance of reelecting our President and preventing Mitt Romney from gaining the power to appoint the extremists he has promised he would put on the bench.

Today’s decision marks a huge step on the road to guaranteeing universal health care for every American, and I look forward to working with you to complete that journey.

Mitt Romney’s Latest Flip-Flop: the Blunt Amendment

Yesterday, Gov. Mitt Romney displayed the most flagrant example of his flip-flopping skills by opposing the extreme Blunt Amendment and then turning around and supporting it in record time.

The Blunt Amendment is the latest incarnation of the extreme attacks on women by Romney and his GOP cronies.  The Los Angeles County Democratic Party strongly opposed the Blunt Amendment, which would have allowed employers to deny reproductive health coverage for women, and might have allowed even greater restrictions on health coverage.

Even though the Blunt Amendment was rightfully defeated in the U.S. Senate today, it does not negate the fact that Romney continues to flip-flop, especially on reproductive health and other health care issues.

At one time, Romney was pro-choice, in favor of allowing emergency contraception for rape victims.  Now, Romney is pro-life, in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade, and supports allowing bosses to control women’s health care choices and decisions.

It’s time for Romney to stop pandering in whichever direction the wind blows to garner votes.  Most importantly, it’s time for Romney and the Republicans to halt their despicable assault on women.

Craig Huey’s Biggest Scam Yet

Craig Huey made millions promoting phony Alzheimer’s cures and investment scams to seniors. Now he’s using that money to run for Congress so he can gut Social Security and end Medicare in his BIGGEST SCAM YET!

Huey’s business, Creative Direct Marketing Group, sends out junk mail for phony nutritional supplements and investment schemes like Constitution Mining, which targeted seniors with returns of “up to 23 times” their investments. Unfortunately for the victims of Huey’s scam, the stock never rose much above $1 and is now worth 18 cents.

On July 12th, Craig Huey hopes to capitalize on a low turnout among Democrats in CD 36 to pull off an upset against longtime Democratic champion Janice Hahn. The seniors that Huey bilked out of the their hard earned retirement will never get their money back, but there are three ways you can stop his latest scam.

Sign up to volunteer for Janice Hahn, make a donation to the Hahn campaign so the voters of CD 36 hear the truth about Huey, and share the video above Facebook to expose this scam artist for what he is.

Together, we’ll send Janice Hahn to Congress begin the quest to retake the House in 2012

Retaking the House in 2012 Starts With Hahn

LACDP Chair Eric C. Bauman issued the following call-to-action for Democrats across LA County:

Last weekend I joined dozens of Democratic leaders and activists to celebrate the kick-off of the Janice Hahn for Congress run-off campaign.  I was so proud to see elected officials, Democratic club presidents and community leaders from across the county come together to reiterate how important it is that CD 36 be represented by an extraordinary Democrat like Janice Hahn.

In order to ensure that we send Janice to Congress we must do the work to make it happen. Democrats win when we speak from our hearts and about the issues that impact our lives – protecting Medicare and Social Security, providing a world class education for our kids, creating good jobs and preserving our natural resources -issues that Janice will fight for.  The Los Angeles County Democratic Party urges you to join us and volunteer as many hours as you can between now and the July 12th election.

We can’t let another millionaire Republican try to buy his way into office.  Hahn’s Tea Party Republican oppenent Craig Huey spent more than $500,000 to purchase second place in the Primary.  We must spread the word voter-to-voter about just how dangerous another Tea Party extremist in Congress would be.

Our path to retaking the House in 2012 starts today in CD 36 – please join us in the fight!

Eric Bauman: See what happens when they let me on Fox News

To help start the campaign season off with a blast, recently I debated the Chair of the Los Angeles County Republican Party on Fox 11 News.  In the course of the discussion, I stated clearly that California cannot afford even one more year with a Republican Governor, and why Democrats are fired up and ready to win in 2010!

Surely you have heard the pundits and prognosticators who tell us that Sarah Palin, her Tea Party and their obnoxious noise machine have already won. Let me tell you, I have stood with Democratic activists up and down this great state and to paraphrase Mark Twain, “The reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated!”

With your help, we will be victorious in November.

Onwards to Victory,

Eric C. Bauman
