Dear Democrats,
Last year California was America’s great blue beacon, defying the Republican wave that coursed across the nation. Today we have another chance to show our stuff – two special elections that Democrats are poised to win. In Senate Districts 17 and 28 we have the opportunity to elect Democrats who will fight for a better future for all of us and work to put California back on track – but we cannot do it without you. The special election is just days away and we need every volunteer minute you can spare between now and Tuesday – whether at a campaign HQ or in your own living room.
Senate District 17
Conservative Republican George Runner resigned from this seat last November in his never-ending quest for higher office; now his wife Sharon is hoping to slide into his seat. This area is ripe for a Democratic pickup and we are fortunate to have an outstanding candidate in Darren Parker.
Darren is an activist’s activist; he serves as Regional Vice-Chair for the LA Democratic Party, Chairs the California Democratic Party’s African American Caucus and he heads up the AV Human Relations Commission. He is the only candidate endorsed by the Antelope Valley’s local newspaper, The Signal. Darren needs our help to reach every possible voter this weekend to share these important facts with them and demonstrate how winnable this race really is.

Senate District 28
In Senate District 28, the beloved and respected Senator Jenny Oropeza passed away just before the November election. On Tuesday, we have a special election to fill her seat. Democrats in this district will continue to be represented by a strong Democratic leader when they send former-Assembly Member Ted Lieu back to Sacramento.
Ted is an accomplished legislator, community leader and an officer in the Air Force Reserve. He has dedicated himself to serving his country, the state of California and his community his entire life. Just as he has always stood with us, now he needs us to stand with him and help deliver the votes he needs to win in this special election on February 15th.

Friends, please join us in support of these two outstanding candidates. Sign up to volunteer today – whether at a campaign office or from your living room. With your help California Democrats will start 2011 off right, just where we ended 2010 – winning seats for Democrats!
On to Victory,
Eric Bauman
Chair, Los Angeles County Democratic Party
