LACDP Statement on the Paul Ryan GOP Budget Proposal

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement regarding the Ryan GOP budget proposal:

“Less than four months after the American people spoke and chose President Obama’s agenda over the Romney-Ryan Tea Party agenda, Rep. Paul Ryan today has introduced a budget that once again seeks to slash domestic spending, turn Medicare into vouchers, gut Medicaid, and repeal Obamacare.

“Rep. Ryan: the American people have had enough of your obstruction, distortion, and rightwing cynical approach to governance.  The overwhelming vote of the American people last November should have made you realize that your agenda is out-of-touch with America.

“Even after sitting down with the President last week, you are still playing to those who wish to paralyze our government and end support for the frailest and most at-risk in our society.

“You should be ashamed to look your constituents in the eyes.  It is time to cease this game playing, stop resetting the goal posts, and get on with moving our nation forward.”

LACDP Receives Top Honor From Campaigns & Elections Magazine

The Los Angeles County Democratic Party received the prestigious “Reed Award” from Campaigns & Elections Magazine at the 2013 Campaigns & Elections Reed Awards ceremony in Washington, DC.  LACDP is the only local political party in the nation to receive a Reed Award.

LACDP’s robocall supporting last year’s California Proposition 30, named “Hi. My name is Julien,” was honored as “Best Automated Phone Call of 2012.”

The recording featured 10-year-old Julien asking people to vote yes for his future.  In a genuine and honest tone, Julien tells voters that “(t)his vote will affect my future – how many kids are in my class, whether my teacher loses her job, and whether I get to go to college…”

The automated call was produced by the LACDP campaign team, including Chair Eric C. Bauman; Jeremy Thompson, principal at Reelpolitik Campaign Media; Messaging Consultant Jeremy Roseman; Executive Director Adam Seiden; Political Director Clark Lee; and Director of New Media Nik Swiatek.

“The Los Angeles County Democratic Party continues its tradition of excellence in creating innovative campaign solutions that break through the noise and communicate effectively with voters.  We are honored that Campaigns & Elections has recognized our work to help pass Proposition 30 in 2012.  We are proud to join our fellow honorees to continue developing dynamic ways to mobilize activists and engage voters,” said Eric C. Bauman, Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

In addition, the automated call was named a Reed Award finalist in the ”Automated Phone Call – Independent Expenditure, Ballot Initiative or Public Affairs Advocacy” category.  Further, LACDP’s postcard series, “Hello from…,” was named a finalist in “Best Collateral Item or Sign.”  The series of postcards used humor and inspiration about hot button topics from the presidential campaign to drive permanent vote-by-mail registration.  One of the postcards featured Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney sending greetings from the Cayman Islands, with language on the reverse urging people to register as permanent vote-by-mail voters to “Help ensure Mitt has plenty of time to visit his hideaway in the Cayman Islands.”

The “Hi.  My name is Julien,” recording and “Hello from…” postcards can be found at www.lacdp.org/campaignawards.

Previously, the LACDP won the prestigious “Gold Pollie” and “Silver Pollie” awards from the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) in 2011 for its work during the 2010 election cycle.  LACDP was the only political party in the nation to receive a Gold Pollie that year, an honor hailed as the “Oscars of Political Advertising,” according to the AAPC.

The Reed Awards recognize excellence in campaign management, political consulting and political design.  Winners, selected by a panel of over 20 judges representing the industry’s best campaigning experts, were announced at the 2013 Reed Awards on Friday, February 1, 2013 in Washington, DC.

Winners of the Reed Awards received a crystal statue and recognition in Campaigns & Elections in print and online. The awards, named after Campaigns & Elections‘ founder Stanley Foster Reed, embody his mission to strive for excellence in political campaigning.
