As we enjoy the last moments of the holiday season and prepare for an important 2016, it is worth looking back at 2015, a year that was eventful and replete with historical successes for Los Angeles Democrats – even as the politics of division and fear sought to divide us like never before.
We saw the first Korean American ever elected to the Los Angeles City Council. We fought for and achieved a livable minimum wage in both the City and County of Los Angeles. And for the first time in decades, LA will be home to both the Senate President pro Tem and the Assembly Speaker, in 2016. These accomplishments came to be because we held fast to our values, our belief in people and delivered a positive, progressive message, rather than running from our ideals.
As 2015 draws to a close and we look forward to the battles before us in the year ahead, we must work even harder to make California a deeper shade of blue, return a two-thirds majority to the legislature, and ensure the White House remains in Democratic hands.
May your New Year be one of happiness, health and peace.
