LACDP Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on the implementation of AB 60, which grants access to driver’s licenses to undocumented men and women:
“I applaud Governor Jerry Brown for standing up for those hidden in the shadows by signing and implementing AB 60, thereby enabling undocumented men and women to drive legally on the streets of California. This law not only improves life for thousands as they head to work, school and home, it also promotes public safety for all motorists.
“AB 60 is a powerful statement against anti-immigrant hysteria-as manifested in laws like California’s Proposition 187 and Arizona’s SB 1070-as it recognizes that regardless of citizenship status, we are all members of a shared society. I’d also like to thank the Honorable Gil Cedillo for his endless diligence that turned this dream into reality.”
