LOS ANGELES Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement following the decision on the appeal of President Trump’s Executive Order on Immigration:

“We are relieved, albeit not surprised, that the decision in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the lower court’s ruling to stay the President’s order to use religion as a basis to ban immigrants and refugees. It seemed that everyone except the President and his administration knew that the order was unconstitutional, and the decision by our judiciary serves to confirm that. The United States from the onset has been a nation of refugees and immigrants, and we always will be. The President should take the time to learn the words his relatives saw on the Statue of Liberty when they were immigrants that say, ‘Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me.. I lift my lamp beside the golden door!’

“We call upon the judicial branch of our government to continue checking and balancing the Trump administration, if only to remind them that the President is not above the law, and must be held accountable. Unfortunately, we fully expect President Trump to appeal this decision to the Supreme Court in one more last ditch effort to implement his despicable policy.”
