The Los Angeles County Democratic Party is pleased to announce that Male Vice Chair Mark Gonzalez has been elected by acclamation as the Party’s new Chair, succeeding Eric C. Bauman who resigned after he was elected to Chair of the California Democratic Party.
“Eric Bauman’s leadership and tenacity over the past 17 years has helped grow the Los Angeles County Democratic Party into the most influential local political Party in the nation,” said LACDP Chair Mark Gonzalez. “I am proud to have been a partner and played a role with Eric, the LACDP executive board, and the entire LACDP delegation. Together, we will continue to strengthen LACDP. I want to thank the delegation for their tremendous support. Last night, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party made the decision to continue to make history and lead the way.
“The true progressive movement is here in California, and it is here in the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. The Democratic Party’s principles are the foundation of how America was built: The Party of inclusion, of the hard-working middle class. As the youngest person and first Latino ever elected Chair of this great Party, I can tell you firsthand that those Democratic Party principles are as alive and true as they ever were. We are going to send the message throughout this country that we are what we preach.”
Following the election, California Democratic Party Chair and LACDP Chair Emeritus Eric C. Bauman made the following statement:
“After 17 years as Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, handing over the gavel is an emotional moment for me. LACDP is my home and my family, and I know we are in capable hands with Mark Gonzalez as our new Chair. I have unwavering confidence in his abilities, and I know that he will build on the tremendous successes we’ve had over these past 17 years. We must ensure Democratic victories in 2018 and beyond, and Mark is the perfect leader for a new generation that will grow and advances our progressive Democratic Values.”
