LOS ANGELES – On the heels of a recent expose shining a spotlight on alleged sexual harassment by Republican State Assembly candidate Dante Acosta against a former female colleague, Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement:
“It is obvious why Dante Acosta has refused to say whether or not he is voting for his party’s misogynist nominee, Donald Trump. It’s because he has purportedly been engaging in the same sort of harassing behavior of which Donald Trump has been accused. As such, we believe he should step down from the Santa Clarita City Council and suspend his Assembly campaign.”
According to recently released emails published in the www.sclarita.com blog, Acosta’s alleged misconduct occurred while both he and the victim worked for Congressman Steve Knight. The published emails claim both Congressman Knight and Assembly Member Scott Wilk were alerted to the situation and took no action, which, if accurate, would make them complicit in the cover-up.
As such, Bauman continued:
“If factual, Congressman Steve Knight’s moral and ethical failures – though clearly in line with his discriminatory and anti-woman rhetoric and record – are inexcusable and unacceptable.
“The apparent complicity of Congressman Steve Knight and State Assembly Member Scott Wilk in attempting to cover-up the allegations implicates all parties involved, clearly placing their political careers over the well-being of the victim. This type of behavior needs to be called out and rebuked, not swept under the rug.
“Despite the allegations, Congressman Knight and Assembly Member Wilk have continued to support Dante Acosta, and continue to raise money and campaign with him. This is not acceptable – it’s time to put an end to all three of their political careers!”
