Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement:
“Yes. I said it. Vomit-inducing. That’s precisely the feeling I got when I read the latest piece by The Atlantic which exposed video footage of the recent racist, Nazi-loving white nationalist conference in Washington, D.C., hosted by the National Policy Institute.
“These hate-spewing bigots dream of an America that’s “cleansed” of non-whites, as articulated by the event’s speaker Richard Spencer, a leader of the alt-right movement.
“As a jewish, openly gay man, who has long fought against this brand of discrimination and dehumanizing rhetoric, I was infuriated and repulsed.
“That’s why I’m ringing the alarm bell to Democrats and mainstream Americans everywhere. This is a call to arms.
“These racists, whose event was comprised singularly only of white men and absent of any women and people of color, believe that their alt-movement is validated by the fact that Donald Trump won his election to be our President.
“It’s now up to us to stand up, to fight, and to show these racist zealots that they’re wrong and that we won’t just stand by idle allowing them to create further divisions in our great country.
“Californians reject this racist, misogynistic, homophobic, anti-semitic view of the world, and the alt-right groups and their soon-to-be President, and we are prepared to fight this battle every day from now until we elect the next Democratic President.”
