LACDP Statement on Marin Luther King, Jr. Day

Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement in commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:

“On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we remember the sacrifices of those who have come before us who dedicated their lives to the Civil Rights movement, and pay tribute to those fighting in the trenches for the basic dignity and respect that still elude so many in today’s America.  Although our country has come a long way over the decades to bridge the gaps of racial inequality, in many ways this past year it has become clearly evident that we have still a long way to go.
One needs to look no further than the top level staff and Cabinet picks of President-elect Donald Trump to find a government full of people with a history of discrimination, racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, and anti-Semitism.  The Democratic Party will not stand idly by, for we remember the indelible words of Martin Luther King, Jr. that ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’
Please join us in the coming days as California Democrats proudly stand by Rep. John Lewis fighting for progress and equality and against the divisiveness and prejudice of the incoming administration.”
