Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on the decision announced today by Senator Boxer to retire after her current term:

“Barbara Boxer’s retirement will be a huge loss for the people of California and our entire nation.

“Since 1993, we have been lucky to have such a staunch progressive champion representing us in the United States Senate, fearlessly fighting for all people. Her record of accomplishment stands among the great lions of the body.

“From protecting our environment; fighting for LGBT equality; leading the push for badly needed investment in America’s aging infrastructure; ensuring women have full access to healthcare and equity in the workplace; to standing down the climate change naysayers, Senator Boxer’s might has far exceeded her height.

“Senator Boxer has never been one to shy away from a fight, and while she will be greatly missed when she leaves the US Senate, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party looks forward to standing alongside her in the days, weeks, and months ahead.”
