LACDP Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on the 50th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act:

“Today marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most significant achievements in the history of the Civil Rights Movement. When President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 into law, it marked an enormous step forward after decades of struggle. Legislation that protected the fundamental right of all Americans, no matter race or creed to make their voices heard at the ballot box was finally realized.  Today, the Voting Rights Act (VRA) is under attack.  Since the Supreme Court struck down key provisions, some states have begun to roll back protections previously guaranteed under the VRA.  It is incumbent upon us all to protect that most fundamental right, and ensure all Americans are able to participate in our democratic process.   It is time to stand together as so many did 50 years ago to demand that the essential right to vote be maintained for all Americans. LACDP is committed to fight to ensure every Angeleno, every Californian, every American’s right to vote is protected and preserved!”
