LACDP Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on the 95th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote:
“Today marks the anniversary of a momentous change in the history of our nation. The 19th Amendment was ratified 95 years ago today. In 2015, women are Senators, lead companies as CEOs, become U.S. Army Rangers, and constitute the financial backbone of many families. But for all of the advancements that women’s suffrage has enabled, there is still so much to do. Even in a progressive state like California, most women earn just 84 percent of what men earn, despite the fact that many women are now the primary breadwinners in so many households across our state.
“As we celebrate how far women have come and their contribution to our shared success, we cannot forget that there are still glass ceilings to be broken, dreams to be realized, and all Californians must work together to make true equality a reality in our lifetimes.”
