Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following response on President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union Address:
“Tonight, President Barack Obama delivered his last State of the Union address. The State of the Union is strong and is getting stronger because of the work we have accomplished together under the President’s leadership.
“When President Obama assumed office after the last Republican President, the lives of millions of everyday Americans were in shambles – eight million jobs were lost during the Bush Recession; foreclosures loomed with the housing crisis; and for many, access to healthcare was still a dream.
“Under President Obama, we have had nearly six years of private sector job growth with more than 14 million new jobs created. The landmark Affordable Care Act has made sure that access to healthcare is no longer unattainable for millions of Americans. Through the President’s executive action, Dreamers no longer live in the shadows of our society. And just last week, after years of trying to get Republicans in Congress to put the good of the people above the desires of the NRA and their allies, the President took executive action to put in place commonsense gun safety reforms.
“But we still have much to do. We need to make sure that we keep moving America forward on the path of progress, not regress. And that means we must ensure the White House stays blue!
“This critical year, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party will continue to fight alongside President Obama and the Democratic leadership in Washington. We will work hard to make sure that a Democrat wins the White House in November.”
