Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement urging Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, as well as all Democratic Senators, to vote against the confirmation of Betsy DeVos:
“The Los Angeles County Democratic Party calls on California Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris to do everything possible to stop the Senate confirmation of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education. Even if the only issue was her lack of experience in any facet of public education, it would be enough to demand a “No” vote, but the dangers of DeVos go much further.
“The Secretary of Education must respect and work for our children, schools, and teachers, but DeVos consistently attacks and denigrates our public schools. The Secretary of Education’s job is to defend and better our public schools, ensuring that all our children have an equal shot at success–but DeVos made her name by destroying public education in America.
“When our children’s future is directly at stake, decisive action must be taken. DeVos has worked her whole career to undermine our public schools and further the privatization of education in America. It is our duty to call upon Feinstein, Harris, and all of their Democratic colleagues in the Senate to recognize this very real threat to our children and our schools and vote ‘No’ on Betsy DeVos.”
