LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Mark Gonzalez released the following statement following Governor Jerry Brown’s signage of SB 100 into law, setting the goal for California to be phased out from fossil fuel usage for electricity by 2045:
“Thanks to the efforts of leaders like Senator Kevin de Leon and Governor Jerry Brown, California once again sets the pace for the rest of the country to follow. After the President pulled the United States out of global climate agreements in disgrace, California’s leaders light the way by saying that if the Republican White House refuses to acknowledge its role in thwarting climate change – as the rest of the world already has – then we will take the lead ourselves.
“We in California have too much to lose if environmental policy isn’t up to date with the actual environment. Between our agriculture, our coastline, our wildlife, and our parks, we cannot afford to put our heads in the sand as the climate changes. The United States has the resources and the ability to keep the world’s climate from affecting us more than it already has and will, and California leads the charge beginning with the signage of SB 100.”
