Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement regarding the recent Islamophobic and racist policies proposed by GOP frontrunners Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald J. Drumpf:
“I categorically denounce GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz for his Islamophobic and racist suggestion that we ’empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods.’ This hateful, xenophobic rhetoric is exactly what fuels the flames of extremism we see from the hard right. This caustic rhetoric is used as propaganda to recruit by ISIS and other groups responsible for the terrorism we see around the world as of late. Furthermore, I condemn GOP presidential candidate Donald J. Drumpf for his continuing and escalating inflammatory rhetoric against Muslims, Latinos, women and others – most recently saying that we have to ‘study mosques’ to stop the terrorists.
“The more we hear policy proposals and suggestions from the GOP frontrunners, the more confident I become that the American people will listen to reason and vote to elect either Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton as the next President in November.”
