Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement in reaction to a highly inflammatory email sent this past holiday weekend from Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains President Dorothy Reik:
“The Los Angeles County Democratic Party condemns hateful and inflammatory speech that resorts to demeaning and derogatory attacks in place of a thoughtful and reasoned discourse of the issues. Pejoratives do not facilitate an environment where real debate and discussion may occur or create a space where people feel welcome to participate.
“I find the recent statements by PDSMM President Dorothy Reik on the passing of Nobel Laureate Elie Weisel ill-timed, ill-informed, and in poor taste. While Ms. Reik has a right to voice her opinion, she must take into account how the language that she uses and the reckless actions that she takes as President of Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains reflect upon her club’s membership, as well as the Democratic Party as a whole.”
