Misleading Ballot Layout for the Whittier Local Elections

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Mark Gonzalez released the following statement regarding the misleading layout of the ballots for the Tuesday, April 10, 2018 Whittier local elections:

“We are incredibly concerned about the layout of the ballot for Whittier’s local elections on Tuesday April 10, 2018. The ballot is obviously misleading to the average voter as the space for a write-in candidate is not just noticeably smaller in size than the other spaces, but it is precariously placed to make it look like there is no space at all. Whittier City Clerk and Whittier City Officials must take immediate action to protect voters from having their votes invalidated on election day and commit to counting every vote impacted by the flawed ballot design for this and future elections. Election law provides for a 28 day election canvass precisely for this reason–to carefully review all ballots and determine voter intent.”
