LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Mark Gonzalez released the following statement following the passage of SB 822, making California’s Net Neutrality Laws the strongest in the world:
“Thanks to the leadership of Senators Scott Wiener and Kevin de Leon and Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, California’s Net Neutrality laws are now the strongest in the world. Los Angeles is proud to have elected officials like Miguel and Kevin and support electeds like Scott who fight to keep their constituents from being exploited. We already saw the damage that can be done without Net Neutrality when firefighters in Mendocino had their data service throttled and their firefighting abilities held hostage by internet service providers during the largest fire in California history until the fire fighters agreed to pay almost twice as much for the same service.
“SB 822 is designed to ensure that no person, business, or institution will have service that can be changed at arbitrarily added costs, and that websites will not be forced to pay more for the same service as other sites. Keeping the internet open and free will keep it the competitive and game changing force that it always has been and was always meant to be. California’s innovators can rest easy knowing that their work can continue uninhibited to keep our California society, culture, and economy the powerhouse of the world.”
