Los Angeles County Democratic Party Announces Opposition to the Recall of San Gabriel School Board Member Scott Svonkin

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Democratic Party (LACDP) voted unanimously to oppose the recall of San Gabriel Unified School District Board Member Scott Svonkin.

“The Los Angeles County Democratic Party strongly opposes the recall attempt of San Gabriel School Board Member Scott Svonkin. The recall effort is an outlandish attempt to play partisan politics at the expense of our schoolchildren, our community and taxpayers’ dollars. The Democratic Party stands firmly behind Svonkin,” said Eric C. Bauman, LACDP Chair.

Since his election in 2007, Svonkin has stood up for the children, teachers, and working families in the San Gabriel Unified School District. He has fought against wasteful spending and to prevent teacher layoffs. He has worked to maintain small class sizes, prevent budget cuts that hurt students and expanded the availability of the H1N1 vaccine to all San Gabriel School District students.

The San Gabriel Unified School District recall is a waste of taxpayers’ dollars. The funding should be spent on our schools to build a brighter future for our kids, not on a partisan gimmick.
