Note to reporters: If you ask Fiorina a legitimate question, then “You must be on Barbara Boxer’s payroll”

From today’s San Jose Mercury News

Fiorina, interviewed after the chamber event by the Mercury News, was asked whether the conservative positions she staked out on abortion, assault weapons and greenhouse gas limits in the Sept. 1 debate were too far to the right for many undecided voters.

“You must be on Barbara Boxer’s payroll,” she said, “because that’s kind of her campaign strategy…”

Reporters – imagine what Fiorina would call you if you asked about her laying off 33,000 workers, boasting about shipping thousands of American jobs overseas, and now her hypocritical opposition to a Senate bill providing tax relief for small business when that’s what she says she wants?

Or imagine if you asked about her hints at support for Social Security privatization?

When Fiorina was CEO of Hewlett-Packard, the company was one of the founding members of the Alliance for Worker Retirement Security, an industry group that engaged in direct lobbying of Congress in support of Social Security privatization. “On its website, the alliance lists the creation of private accounts as its No. 1 principle.” [Los Angeles Times, January 30, 2005]
