Carly Fiorina: Karl Rove’s new friend to support Social Security Privatization
Karl Rove, known as “Bush’s Brain,” was the architect of the risky and ultimately rejected privatization of Social Security. That plan would have risked the retirement security for millions of California’s seniors, if ever enacted.
Rove has a new candidate who has hinted at support for Social Security privatization: Carly Fiorina. And now Rove has unleashed $1 million in attack ads to support her campaign.
When Fiorina was CEO of Hewlett-Packard, the company was one of the founding members of the Alliance for Worker Retirement Security, an industry group that lobbied Congress in support of Social Security privatization. “On its website, the alliance lists the creation of private accounts as its No. 1 principle.” [Los Angeles Times, 1/30/05]
In response, Bob Mulholland of CEO Watch says, “Well, Mr. ‘Bush’s brain,’ it didn’t work when you were in the White House, and it won’t work today. Maybe now that George W. Bush has left, you aspire to be ‘Fiorina’s brain.’ Regardless of whatever title you want, Californians will reject such a dangerous blueprint that will dismantle Social Security.”
