LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Democratic Party Vice Chair Bobbie Jean Anderson released the following statement regarding the progress of SB 822:
“As was stated in our statement from December regarding net neutrality, the LA County Democratic Party is committed to an open and free internet for all Californians. Not a single consumer who knows what net neutrality does was for getting rid of it in the first place because not a single individual could possibly have benefitted from its repeal – unless they were a multinational internet service provider. This is why the Democratic Party in both LA County and California put our support for net neutrality in our platforms and why LACDP supports SB 822.
“Assemblymember Miguel Santiago and Senator Scott Wiener know how crucial net neutrality is to our society, which is why they are passionately working on legislation that ensures that Californians have as strong a set of net neutrality laws as possible. When SB 822 came to Asm. Santiago, he put some of the language from President Obama’s net neutrality laws in to Senator Wiener’s bill so that it might continue to be improved upon in committees leading up to its eventual introduction to the Assembly floor. Now, we are happy to reaffirm that the Senator and the Assemblymember are both diligently working together to make the strongest and most well thought-out net neutrality laws possible, which is heavily supported by our platform. We wish them the best and look forward to the bill they produce to ensure a free and open internet for all. The fight for net neutrality continues as the bill heads to the Assembly’s Privacy Committee.”
