Resolution Condemning and Calling for the Removal/Resignation of City of Lancaster Commissioner Stan Muhammed for his LGTBQ and Anti-Semitic Slurs

WHEREAS, when serving the public, one is entrusted with an immense honor and responsibility to the people they represent; both as an advocate and as a sounding board for ideas going forward throughout their community, and

WHEREAS, on July 20, 2013, City of Lancaster Commissioner Stan Muhammad uttered slurs towards the LGBTQ and Jewish communities and subsequently, the Lancaster City Council and the Mayor have refused to hear their constituents’ demands to remove the Commissioner from office.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party:

1) Condemns Commissioner Muhammad’s slurs and the Lancaster City Council and Mayor’s decision to allow the Commissioner to continue in his capacity as a Lancaster official in light of his hate-filled language, and

2) Ask that Commissioner Muhammad publicly apologize for both his slurs against the LGBTQ and Jewish communities, and

3) The Lancaster City Council, the governing body that appointed Commissioner Muhammad, execute their ability to remove him, or the Commissioner resign immediately, and

4) The City of Lancaster implement diversity training programs for all current and future city officials.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party send a copy of this resolution to Lancaster City Council and Mayor.
