Opposing Privatization of Social Security and Medicare
Whereas, at a time when Americans are facing economic challenges which have impacted their earnings, proposals are being presented to divert worker’s earnings into private Wall Street investment accounts, today’s payroll taxes re now spent on Social Security checks for beneficiaries, and
Whereas, recent events have proven that retirees cannot trust private insurance, more and more insurers are reducing benefits, increasing out-of-pocket costs, or refusing to accept Medicare patients, and HMOs have kicked out over 2 million seniors in recent years, and tens of thousand more will likely be dropped in the months ahead.
Therefore be it resolved, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party urge Congress to keep the promise to all Americans to provide financial security and guaranteed benefits in our retirement years through the Social Security program, along with Medicare’s promise of quality health care at an affordable price.
Be it further resolved, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party send a copy of this resolutions to President Obama, Senators Feinstein and Boxer and the California Congressional delegation asking them to oppose, reject, and vote against any legislation that would partially or fully Privatize the Social Security and/or Medicare programs.
