Resolution on Preserving Two Year Registered Nurse and One Year Licensed Vocational Nurse Programs

WHEREAS, community college two year RN and the various one year low cost hands on experience LVN programs at community colleges, high schools, and ROPs are helping to alleviate a growing shortage of nurses at a time when health care reform creates a need for health care professionals at all levels; and

WHEREAS, community college, high school and ROP nursing programs are a bridge between poverty and a respected career for many people; and

WHEREAS, community colleges are closing down nursing programs and private nursing programs are freezing the poor out of nursing and are not matching the level of community college programs

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party support our excellent public two year RN and one year LVN programs; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Party informs local community college districts, state health agencies, and members of the state legislature of this position.
