WHEREAS, America bomber pilots flying in the European theater of World War II were limited to thirty-five missions because of heavy attrition caused by effective German use of radar, heavy anti-aircraft guns, and fast propeller driven, jet, and rocket airplanes: and
WHEREAS, Chinese American Lt. Victor Schoon flew fifty missions over Austria, Germany, Italy and Romania and Lt. Victor Schoon also performed a heroic emergency landing maneuver in a small English farm where he saved all his crews’ lives and never received the Distinguished Flying Cross medal; and
WHEREAS, the Distinguished Flying Cross is awarded to any officer who distinguishes himself in support of operations by “heroism or extra ordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight”
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party call on the Department of Defense to award 93 year old Victor Schoon his long overdue Distinguished Flying Cross; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party forward this request to Congressmember Judy Chu, the members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees, the Veterans Caucus of the California Democratic Party and the California Democratic Party.
