Whereas, research shows that a single wage earner in Los Angles needs more that 15 dollars per hour to meet basic needs and this wage would improve the lives of workers and their families, and their increased spending would stimulate the city’s economy and provide employers with a more stable and productive workforce; and
Whereas, the 2014 Platform of the California Democratic Party supports increasing the minimum wage indexed for inflation, including a living wage in areas with a high cost of living and advocates earned sick days for all workers;
Therefore be it resolved, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party supports raising the minimum wage in Los Angeles to at least $15 per hour indexed to the cost of living, including guaranteed earned sick days and a comprehensive enforcement mechanism to end wage theft while protecting workers form retaliation.
