WHEREAS, twenty-three states have adopted “Right-to-work” laws, making it impossible for workers to organize labor unions by majority vote, and
WHEREAS, workers in “Right-to-work” states earn from $1,500 to $5,000 less per year than workers in other states, enabling manufacturers in those states to undercut prices while increasing their own profits, and
WHEREAS, companies in California and other unionized states are facing pressure to hold down costs by holding down wages,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party encourages California cities, counties and state agencies to adopt policies giving preference in purchasing goods and services to vendors that are not located in “Right-to-work” states, unless the vendor is unionized, and
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party send copies of this resolution to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Speaker of the California Assembly, the President Pro Tem of the California Senate, the Los Angeles City Council, and other governmental bodies as appropriate.
