Resolution Supporting the Protection of Sullivan Canyon

WHEREAS, the cutting down of 58 native trees on private property in Sullivan Canyon has caused local residents concern over possible wider environmental damage; and

WHEREAS, residents are also concerned about the development of two large hillside homes that may result in the loss of wildlife corridors and the destruction of natural habitats; and

WHEREAS, the abovementioned development is adjacent to Sullivan Canyon Park, a natural area popular with hikers and naturalists, and the protection of such natural areas is a basic principle of the Democratic Party;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party exert the strongest possible influence on state and local agencies to organize, manage, implement and sustain an environmentally viable Sullivan Canyon; and

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Los Angeles City Council, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer and State Senator Ben Allen.
