Resolution to Save Propositions 63 and 10

Resolution to Save Propositions 63 and 10

Whereas, Prop 63, the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) and Prop 10, the First 5 initiative (Children’s Health Services), were overwhelmingly passed by the voters and again re-affirmed last May, 2009 by the resounding defeat of Prop 1D and 1E and

Whereas, the Governor and the Republicans are again attempting to raid these programs and transfer these programs’ revenue into the General Fund where they will have to compete with schools, prisons, all other health and social services, etc. resulting in the end of Mental Health and children’s health services except for those with MediCAL in the state and

Whereas, this will result in more police having to jail the mentally ill, more psychiatric wards and Emergency Rooms unable to meet psychiatric emergencies, more sick children and a system straining because of the need to use higher cost services.

Therefore be it resolved, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party calls on the Democratic Delegation to the State Senate and State Assembly to explore other options to protect mental health and children’s health services, and

Be it further resolved the LACDP will send a copy of this Resolution to all the members of the Democratic delegation and to alert all media outlets immediately about this continued assault on mental health and children’s health services.
