Resolution Supporting Legal Challenge of Governor’s Line Item Veto

Whereas, Governor Schwarzenegger’s use of a “line item veto” on state parks and other budget items appears to violate the California Constitution (Cal Const. Art. IV, Section 10 (e) and California court decisions; and

Whereas, these cuts will close approximately 100 state parks (including Los Encinos State Historical Park, Point Dume State Beach, Pio Pico State Historical Park, Rio de Los Angeles State Park, and Santa Susana Pass State Historical Park in Los Angeles County) exposing these parks to an extended period of abandonment, rain, rodent infestation, termites, vandalism, and water damage;

Whereas, Senator Steinberg and Assemblymember Perez have taken legal action to invalidate the Governor’s July 29, 2009 cuts,

Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party supports legal action to invalidate Governor Schwarzenegger’s latest series of mean spirited draconian cuts.
