Resolution in Support of Occupy Los Angeles
WHEREAS, the citizens of Los Angeles County, like 180 million Americans across the Unites States, are reeling and becoming disenfranchised because of the continuing economic crisis threatening our fiscal viability and quality of life and ability to sustain basic human needs and requirements to live and thrive.
WHEREAS, the 400 wealthiest Americans and their corporate interests have acquired a concentration of economic power and political power controlling more than 50% of the wealth in the United States and these few individuals and their corporations now control more wealth than those 180 million Americans at the bottom of the ecomonic ladder, and
WHEREAS, the causes and consequences of this economic crisis now plaguing our public welfare and democracy are eroding the very social contract upon which the Constitution that the United States of America was founded; namely, the ability of American citizens to come together and form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common general welfare of, the common defense of and protection of the people, and secure the blessings of liberty and freedom for all, allowing every American to strive for, share, and thrive in the prosperity of our nation through cooperation and hard work.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the LA County Democratic Party hereby declares its support for the Occupy Los Angeles movement’s efforts to speak out against corporate greed and corruption of the democratic system and for the restoration of economic justice, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be distributed to all Democratic elected officials representing the citizens of Los Angeles County and all media outlets.
