LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on passing of longtime Democratic strategist Kam Kuwata:
“I am greatly saddened by the passing of Kam Kuwata. Today, we lost a dear friend and a top Democratic political mind whose influential behind the scenes work had touched California and American politics alike.
“Kam’s work extends nearly 30 years in campaign strategic planning, communications, and messaging. He served in many key roles for major and local Democratic campaigns alike, including the campaigns of U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein, Daniel Akaka, and Alan Cranston; Gray Davis, Leo McCarthy, Jim Hahn, and Robert Matsui. In 2008, he managed the successful statewide campaign of California’s high speed rail bond and served as program director for the Obama campaign at the Democratic National Convention.
“Most recently, we are proud to have had Kam serve as the chief strategist for the Los Angeles County Democratic Party’s “CEO Watch” in 2010, a successful media project that explored the records of Republican candidates who brag about their business credentials for seeking public office.
“Kam was a tireless fighter, a self-proclaimed ‘political hack,’ whose low-key-but-no-nonsense style earned him great respect in political circles. He was a role model and mentor figure for many young Democratic campaign staffers.
“On behalf of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, we extend our most sincere sympathy to the Kuwata family and friends.”
