In Support Of the Current Electoral College System in California's 2008 June Primary

Whereas, a proposed ballot initiative to challenge how California casts its 55 Electoral College votes, is being promoted by the Republican Party to be placed on the ballot in the next State Primary Election; and

Whereas, the passage of such an initiative could derail the Democratic Party’s national bid to recapture the White House in the 2008 elections; and

Whereas, nearly all other states utilize a winner-take-all system, for which any change in California would have dramatic national import; so

Therefore be it resolved, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party supports the retention of the current  system for California's 55  electoral votes in 2008 ; and

Be it further resolved, that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party urges California voters to maximize our state's influence by continuing the curent electoral system for 2008; and  that the Los Angeles County Democratic Party shall send a copy of this resolution to the California Democratic Party.
