LOS ANGELES COUNTY --

The Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) is pleased to announce the election of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1428 President Mark Ramos as Chair, succeeding long-time party leader and community activist Mark Gonzalez. Also electing Jacob Haik, LACDP Controller as Vice Chair to succeed long-time Party leader, Sergio Carrillo.

Ramos, a seasoned labor leader and a stalwart in the Democratic Party, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to advancing the party's values and priorities.

Ramos has dedicated his career to fighting for working families and championing democratic causes. As President of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1428 and as President of the UFCW Western States Council, Ramos has been a tireless advocate for labor rights and economic justice.

"I am humbled and honored to have been elected as Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party by my fellow delegates," said Ramos. "In these challenging times, it is more important than ever to unite as Democrats and stand up for our values. I am committed to working tirelessly together to strengthen our party, engage our communities, and fight for a more just and equitable Los Angeles County."

In addition to his leadership roles within the labor movement, Ramos has served as a California Democratic Party Regional Director and has been actively involved in local Democratic clubs and organizations. His passion for grassroots organizing and his dedication to empowering communities have earned him the respect and admiration of fellow Democrats throughout the county as shown by his near-unanimous election as Chair.

As Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, Ramos will focus on expanding voter engagement, promoting diversity and inclusion within the party, and supporting Democratic candidates at all levels of government. Under his leadership, the party will continue to be a powerful force for progress and change in Los Angeles County, throughout California, and the rest of the country.

“Mark Ramos is a parent, an activist, and an organizer who has dedicated his life to lifting up working people and families, fighting to protect the rights of marginalized communities, and ensuring an economy that works for all people that includes livable wages and access to healthcare,” said Chair Emeritus Mark Gonzalez. “I am confident that Mark will be an exceptional leader for the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. No other person with a background is more ready, more qualified, and more committed to assume Chair of the Los Angeles Democratic Party and ensuring its success than him.”

Jacob Haik, an accomplished party leader, has served as LACDP's Controller since 2020. An experienced public servant working in several Los Angeles City Council offices over the span of two decades. Jacob currently serves as the Director of Sustainability & Compliance for the Los Angeles World Airports. He also serves on the board of the San Pedro Democratic Club and Co-Chair to LACDP's Candidate Interview Committee.

In a letter to Democrats Jacob said:

"It has been my most profound honor to serve as your Controller for the past 4 years, and I am now honored to have been elected as your new Vice Chair. I could not have done this without your overwhelming support on Tuesday night.  I am so grateful for your support and I am so excited to get to work.  While we have achieved a lot of wins and victories, the work continues to help elect more Democrats all across Los Angeles County. I have said many times that our success is built on what we have accomplished as a whole with every member of LACDP, so it is with this collective spirit that we embark on this new chapter of LACDP together. I promise to lead by example with courage, compassion, and conviction.

I would also like to congratulate our newly elected Chair, Mark Ramos!  We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I could not ask for a better person to lead us to victory than Mark!  Lastly, a HUGE thank you to our outgoing Vice Chair, Sergio Carrillo.  Sergio took me under his wing when I first arrived at LACDP.  I and the rest of the entire central committee owe Sergio a tremendous debt of gratitude for his service. It is my hope to make Sergio proud.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

Sincerely,

Jacob Haik

Vice Chair"
