The Lies About Trump's Cronies

Happy Wednesday! Welcome back to our #TrumpCheck series, the LACDP's weekly newsletter that holds the Trump administration accountable for its lies, deception, and self-serving actions.

Washington D.C. is extra busy these days; in 10 days, a 45-million-dollar military parade apparently celebrating '250 years of the U.S. Army' will take place on Constitution Avenue through the National Mall. Strange timing, that also happens to be Donald's birthday. Sound familiar?

Between attempting to stop medically necessary emergency abortions, and working to balloon the national deficit by 2.4 trillion dollars (that's trillion, with a "T", or one million million. A trillion has 12 zeros after the one: 1,000,000,000,000), Trump is keeping himself occupied.

So instead of giving the birthday boy any additional attention, we decided today to cover his cronies and their drama. Between black eyes, horse tranquilizers, and White House throuples, there is plenty going on in the MAGA-social circles... and that's just Elon Musk! Let's unpack some of the lies from Trump's buddies.

Trump's domestic policy agenda, the "Big Beautiful Bill," barely passed through Congress on May 22nd with a 'razor thin margin,' one that included a vote by Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green. A provision in the bill bans states from regulating AI through 2035.

FACT: After voting in favor of the bill, Congresswoman Green rescinded support due to the AI provision, admitting that she never read the bill. “I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there," she announced on X. 'You know, it’s hard to read over 1,000 pages when things keep changing up to the last minute before we voted on it,” she said.

On Friday, Elon Musk showed up for an interview with Donald Trump in the Oval Office sporting a black eye. In that appearance, he aggressively shut down questioning about his use of recreational drugs.

FACT: After months of erratic behavior, including a physical altercation in the West Wing, a bombshell report from not one, but two Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalists with the New York Times details extensive use of ketamine, Adderall, psychedelic mushrooms, and Ecstasy throughout Musk's entire stint in politics. He doubled down on X, denying the allegations, and claims that his son, who turned 5 years old last month, gave him the bruise to his face.

After spending $288 million on election contributions to buy his way into the U.S. government, Elon Musk announced last week that he will be stepping down from his role in the Trump administration.

FACT: Sources close to Musk say that he is 'disillusioned' with his time in politics, particularly after he donated $25 million to a conservative candidate in a Wisconsin Supreme Court justice race and lost. Maybe it has something to do with the global anti-Tesla (and anti-Elon) protests around the planet, which have tanked his company's value. And those protesters aren't going anywhere.

**Take this as a lesson, Elon... your money is no match against the power of Americans.**
